It turns out that staunchly-Republican Idaho is a socialist state! At least so far as hard liquor sales are concerned. Any beverage more than 16% alcohol by volume can only be bought in a state-owned-and-run liquor store. Spirits are not available at grocery stores or drug stores. The state stores all keep the same hours and stock the same inventory, making them completely interchangeable. If the one nearest you doesn't stock a particular brand, you don't have the option of taking your business elsewhere. And the prices are significantly higher than in California, even higher than in Vietnam. No BevMo where you can go for lower prices. It's socialism at its worst.
Even Hanoi, the capital of an avowedly communist country, was more free market-friendly than red Idaho.
Won't stop us from drinking liberally, though.

It's the same here in North Carolina. I don't understand why they think distilled spirits need to be controlled by the state but beer and wine don't. Ooooo, it's stronger! But you can get just as drunk on beer.
I'm proud of my new-found self-control not to make a capitalist remark, but, I really had some good retorts. Maybe I'll share them over a glass of Idaho wine.
