Several of the main thoroughfares sport lovely neon decorations, year-round. There are colorful Christmas lights and a cheery snowflake on one block, a beautiful, stylized peony on the next, then the hammer and sickle, then another snowflake. Kind of random, but cool.

No idea, but it's depicted on several statues here.
I have to admit that I am sort of a sucker for Soviet posters and statues. I often like them better than our decadent bourgeouis statues. Such as Robert Graham- http://www.robertgraham-artist.com/catalog/main.html
Steve--I agree. There are many shops here that sell nothing but old propaganda posters. Some are quite graphically powerful. I think we will probably buy one before we leave.
