Random Snaps and a Happy New Year From Hanoi.

O. decided not to buy a gown for New Year's.

Christmas decorations were more prevalent than we had expected,
especially in the upscale sections of downtown, of course.

But also in our neighborhood, where Spider-Man and Pleasant Goat
vied for supremacy with Old St. Nick. We saw several Vietnamese
dressed as Santa, but never when we had the camera, dammit.

We have invested in a good bottle of champagne to toast in the New Year. We've ordered Indian food for home delivery and are looking forward to a relaxing three-day weekend. We have tickets to see Avatar tomorrow. I'll post on the Vietnamese movie experience later.

Happy New Year from us.
And Heineken.

Was the western alphabet introduced by the French?

Actually by Portuguese missionaries in the 1600s, though it didn't really take off until the twentieth century, when those pushing for greater literacy among the population decided it would be easier to teach than the Chinese characters previously used.

Wow, it is next decade already there in Hanoi. We just had lunch here in California. Haven't even prepared the hors d'oeuvres for tonight. You are always so ahead of us.

Happy New Year. Missing the many times we have rung in the new year together.

Looking at the photos again, it looks like it would be very easy to do a series of things with scooters park in front or inside.

Ophelia should have bought one of those gowns for New Year's eve. They are sooooo O. Perhaps for Valentines day?

Beth, I thought that blue little number had my name on it until Peter asked me how many times did I think I'd actually wear it - took the wind out of my sails. Actually these dresses remind me of similar ones that can be seen all over The Mission.

XOXO,
O.
